Super Mario Bros. 2 (Games) By: Tanabe Kensuke
Birdo's gender has been presented variously throughout the character's history, ranging from being described as a boy who wants to be a girl in the original U.S. version of the Super Mario Bros. 2 manual to gender simply not being mentioned (later releases), to simply being described as gender-confused (Super Smash Bros. Brawl) to being presented as female (Mario Tennis).
